The Mission of The Literacy Council is to deliver English literacy instruction in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and life skills through one-on-one and small group tutoring and conversation classes to empower motivated adult learners to gain the necessary competencies to enrich their life, the businesses where they work, and the communities where we all live.

The Literacy Council of Chelan and Douglas Counties is a program of the Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council.  Previously called the Wenatchee Valley Literacy Council, we have been serving adults in the Wenatchee Valley area for over 30 years. The Literacy Council is an affiliate of Wenatchee Valley College and receives a significant portion of its funding from United Way of Chelan and Douglas Counties. Other funding sources include the Community Foundation of North Central Washington, Washington Apple Education Foundation, local service clubs, businesses, and private donors.

The Literacy Council is administered by a paid Program Director and directed by an Advisory Board composed of up to 15 volunteers.
